. . . If you don't feed me on time I am gonna be upset. . . . . YOUR dog is even MORE of a habit creature than you are!! That can be GOOD and BAD. . bad habits persist, BUT so do good ones!! Learn how to make the MOST of your dogs nature!!
We all have strong feelings when it comes to our beloved companions! Regarding my views, I will always treat you with grace and kindness, but I will also be straightforward. Be prepared to learn new things, and have some of your ideas challenged! Reality and perceptions. . .
Dogs graduate from this class with such poise, reliability and sensitivity to their master and others!! Many Many Many graduates have gone on to easily pass the "Certification" testing to utilize their dog to serve people in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, - wherever the LOVE of a DOG is needed!! If you aspire to share your dog with others, this course sets you on that path!!
Sometimes having your "Canine Good Citizen" award opens doors that are otherwise shut. Like apartment leases, workplaces, sporting events, hotels, etc. Graduates of Scotch Pines have behavior that is well above the bar!! Having a pleasant obedient pet makes all the difference in the world! And when others witness your amazing dog OFF leash - they are even more impressed! We don't do the certifying, but those who do will easily recognize your dog as being a good citizen!
Dogs are SUPERHEROS! They can lead the blind, hear for the deaf, detect drugs, bombs, blood sugar, cancer, and a potato chip under the sofa!. They know our moods and our needs! They are sensitive and always ready to show concern, loyalty and faithfulness. Service dog training is complicated depending on the need, and we do not offer that training. But many Scotch Pines Graduates have gone on to be Certified Service Dogs for their owners. The sky is the limit for your dog, so tap into his potential by training him first!! HEROS are great, but they usually charge for their services, SUPERHEROS are superheros because they DON'T charge for their services, and your dog is superhero material!!
I don't know about you, but every dog I have, or have ever had, is part of my emotional support!! Dogs don't have the TITLE "Mans best friend" for nothing!! They are so wonderful in every way. . . some of their "ways" are challenging, but overall our love overlooks their faults because the scales are so heavily loaded on the side of their positive attributes!! Maybe some homes are filled with only "cat people", but I bet if they owned a dog, they might be hooked for life!! Dogs complicate life because they do have needs, but when we become wrapped around their little paw, we cheerfully meet their needs and they overwhelmingly meet ours!! Be a GREAT owner by training your dog! Sadly we usually outlive them. . . losing them is so painful. . . the grief is great, but for me the joy IS greater and they are always in our heart. I encourage every dog lover to love again! The next dog is NEVER the last one. . . NO two dogs are ever the same, but there are dogs looking for someone to adore and we have lots of love to give!!
At Scotch Pines Dog Training, we do not offer agility training, but many of our graduates have pursued this exhilarating, adventurous and highly athletic activity! TIME together, and learning new things, are always good for dogs and their owners!! Because of the great foundation of reliable obedience, our graduates really shine in the agility ring!! We do NOT offer BOARD and TRAIN and we do NOT recommend it!! These days lots of "trainers" offer to board your dog while training and exercising! IT DOES NOT WORK!! First of all your dog does not understand "I will see you in a few weeks". They are stressed and maybe even traumatized from being apart from you and their home. Next, the "trainers" usually charge HUGE prices, and deliver very low results. Too many of our students have tried this route only to have BIG regrets. The most important reason of all to AVOID board and train is that YOU should be their master and trainer.
What a BIG blessing it is to YOU and a dog when you adopt and or rescue them!! The real question is who rescued who? I can tell you the I have been "rescued" by a dog. She taught me how to love and laugh again, and I am so grateful! Typically a dog is in a shelter or rescue because of a HUMAN failure, NOT the dog! The dog may have behavior issues, but likely they had an unloving home. There is a 3 3 3 rule in rescue - it means give your dog 3 days to decompress from their environment change, 3 weeks to start to feel comfortable, and 3 months to feel at home!! Training a dog that is new to you is a great way to build a lasting, loving bond!!
Over my 15 years of training I have learned so much from each student!! One thing I have discovered about people and dogs, it is that lots of people have 2 dogs, and I think that is really good! Dogs are pack animals and they prefer a buddy, over being alone! BUT, a LOT more people are always struggling to find suitable play dates for their active pups!! I have been pondering an idea for years, and am now launching a NEW way to connect Scotch Pines alumni/graduates with other Scotch Pines alumni/graduates for a variety of compatible applications - because they have a LOT in common and could really appreciate some friends . . .I am calling it "Wagging our tails". . . click here for more information!!
Over the years I seem to naturally fall into the role of "matchmaking"! If I hear of a dog that needs a home, or a home that needs a dog, I get to work trying to find the right "match". My role in this area has never been official, but I would say it has been successful! I want all ya'all to know that if you are in need, email me and I will do my best to facilitate a match made in heaven!! stephanieandbelle@gmail.com

Aggression - it never gets better on its own. . .left unchecked it always gets worse! If you disagree, lets talk!! Dogs of all sizes ages breeds, and temperaments are capable of it! It is predictable dog behavior when they act on their own ideas. . . (I want that food, I want that toy, that is MY person, my my my) It is a very common problem. Sadly most trainers AVOID dealing with it. . . .'redirect" it/change the subject/create a different focus" is what some say . . . . .does that really work?? It may in some controlled situations but not in the long run and certainly not OFF leash!! I you are going to have an ON or OFF leash dog, he has to quit his aggression!! We deal with it. . .we set it up. . we correct it, and I can boldly say that we have 95% success in curing and rehabilitating aggressive dogs. Some dogs are born to be pushy, and in control. . .but they still need to learn to OBEY their master, because at the end of the day, they may still want to be nasty, but they know they can't get away with it, and they learn a "new" habit of walking away instead of engaging whatever their stimulus is! The recent "renaming" aggression as "reactive" kind of irritates me. . . . dogs people animals ALL "react" to ife. Dogs "react" to lots of things without being aggressive! Lets just call it what it is, and if you want help, I bring 15 years of experience to instruct the solutions!
Realize that real change begins with YOU, and how you deal with your dog and his world!
